Andrew Birge is a former United States Attorney with more than 30 years of litigation experience in federal and state courts. During a 25-year career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Andrew served as a federal prosecutor, the First Assistant U.S. Attorney, the Appellate Chief, and ultimately the United States Attorney— leading an office of approximately 80 attorneys and professional staff and overseeing federal criminal and civil litigation.
Andrew now represents individuals and businesses in criminal investigations, prosecutions, appeals, and related civil matters. Andrew brings specialized expertise in white collar and corporate offenses, health care fraud, financial fraud, internal investigations, violent felonies, firearms offenses, drug offenses, complex motions, and appeals. Andrew’s experience as a former U.S. Attorney gives him a unique perspective on how the government puts cases together and how to take them apart.

Andrew began his career as a judicial law clerk to Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Alan Enslen before practicing litigation at a large firm in Chicago. He joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan in 2000.
As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Andrew prosecuted federal felony cases, tried approximately a dozen cases to verdict—including a First Degree Murder case—and handled federal appeals. He later spent approximately a decade as First Assistant U.S. Attorney, supervising the office’s Criminal, Civil, Appellate, and Administrative Divisions.
Andrew served as Acting, Interim, and Court-appointed United States Attorney from 2017 through 2022 and again as Acting U.S. Attorney in 2025. Immediately before joining SBBL Law, he served in the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, handling criminal matters at both the trial and appellate court level.
